“Celebrating our firm’s 25th anniversary was one my best career moments.”
I took a course in school which led me to choose a nursing home for my field placement, and ultimately to my career choice as a geriatric social worker. I saw the needs of the elderly and have a passion for wanting to help this population.
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a social worker is mentoring social workers coming out of graduate school. Over the last 27 years, I have supervised many graduates on a weekly basis who have eventually gone on to successful careers.
A central reason to get into social work is to be an agent of change. I would volunteer in a few social work agencies before making this serious commitment and do informational interviews in areas of interest. I volunteered to work in the social work department of a hospital after graduate school, which helped me.
