When I was twelve years old, I read a biography of the first social worker, Jane Addams, and I decided to follow her example. She was so like my beloved grandma. My ideal is to bravely care about people and help them heal from their biggest challenges.

I love seeing the healing happening in my clients, the increased joy and fun in their thinking and feeling. It’s great to hear them spontaneously say very hopeful, positive things about solving problems and enriching their lives.

One of my best career moments was I had a client with severe PTSD who had survived a knife attack by her boyfriend. Exposed to domestic violence, her baby was put in foster care. I treated her PTSD and testified on her behalf. She got her baby back.
