“Social workers are far more than mere “do-gooders.”
I became a social worker because I was very interested in tackling social justice issues (racism, sexism, etc.) at the institutional and policy level. I thought that social work provided the best opportunity to accomplish those goals.
I was always interested in addressing the root causes of societal ills. I felt that with my specific skill set and interests, I could do that best through politics and public policy. Social workers are innate advocates and work well in policy.
I like waking up and not just thinking, but absolutely knowing, that my work has a positive impact on many people. I love what I do, which makes it easy to put in long hours. I learn something new every day and am constantly challenged.
