George E. Sutton II, LCSW; ACSW; BCD
Lead Social Worker, Department of Veterans Affairs, TX
“The best part is feeling that I have been able to find a way to help one person learn to help himself.”
For me, what started as a small specific clinical interest – adolescents and families – kept expanding to all aspects of clinical practice. I currently practice in the areas of mental health, addictions, post traumatic stress disorder, and gerontology for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
What I like about social work is that no two days of work are the same. And one of the most rewarding moments was when I received an NASW Lifetime Achievement Award!
Being a social worker takes an understanding of one’s abilities, knowledge and limitations along with the ability to set appropriate boundaries. Separate your issues from that of those you treat. Get into social work if you have a desire to be a professional in the “helping profession.”
Salary: $70,000-$79,999
