Asst. Director for Children's Services, Baltimore County Department of Social Services, MD

“Social work is a very versatile profession. Be open to new and different opportunities.”

I always thought I wanted to be an individual and family therapist. As a child, I loved to read “Can This Marriage Be Saved” in Ladies Home Journal! (A bit embarassing to admit: )

But then it seems the area of public child welfare chose me. I wanted a job working with teens, and the Department of Social Services had one to offer. I planned to stay for two or three years. I had no idea I’d make it my career.

A great day is hearing that something good has happened for one of our children or their families. And receiving the National “Social Worker of the Year” Award was the best!

It’s worth a million dollars to feel like I’ve made a difference in someone’s life. The work is never boring and I’ve been privileged to meet some truly incredible people – resilient clients, loving foster parents, and dedicated and hardworking peers.

Salary: $80,000-$99,999
