Kristin Day, MSW
Chief Consultant, Care Management and Social Work, Department of Veterans Affairs, Washington, DC
“I was drawn to social work for its pragmatic, action-oriented focus.”
As a student in dire need of financial assistance, I accepted a stipend for a placement at the Department of Veterans Affairs. I met vets who selflessly served, often at personal peril. I felt a compelled to serve and I’m still here 27 years later. I like making a difference in the lives of those who have given so much to defend our nation.
I enjoy bringing multiple resources together to achieve an important patient-related goal. One of my most rewarding career moments was ensuring that World War II Prisoners of War were located and received their VA benefits.
Social work is an excellent base for any career. Make your life’s work meaningful. Character counts. Prepare to have many careers, all of which will require successful human relationships, the essence of social work.
