Social Services Coordinator, Longhorn Village, TX

“A social worker must be flexible, compassionate, and a little adventurous – we often are put in situations that other people would run away from.”

I was familiar with hospice and palliative care so I chose my first internship at a hospice in Lubbock. When I first visited long-term care facilities, I felt uncomfortable. After only a couple of weeks, I found that it is what I enjoyed the most.

I enjoy getting to know everything about the residents/clients. I feel satisfied when a resident is happy at the end of the day because of something that I was able to do for them, no matter how large or small. A great day is when I am able to spend quality time with a number of residents and really establish trust with them. That trusting bond is of such vital importance – so much can be accomplished once it is there.
