I chose to focus on play therapy because it allows clients to process their experiences in verbal and non-verbal ways. Younger and older children are able to do this through toys and animals. Seeing the look in a child’s eyes when they worked through something difficult and knowing they are going to be okay makes a great day for me!

Working with my two therapy dogs has been really rewarding. The dogs are able to come to work with me and support the children as well as myself. They give unconditional love and empathy, while still allowing the children to be free and process.

If I weren’t a social worker, I would still find a way to work with children and animals as the value of their work is so influential and uplifting!
